BAI MAO GEN
Sweet, cold
Lung stomach and bladder
ACTION:
-Cool blood to stop bleeding
-Clear away heat and induce diuresis
APPLICATION
-Epistaxis hematemesis, hematuria, etc, causecd by blood heat.
-Stranguria due to heat, difficult urination, edema or jaundice due to damp heat.
-Dire thirst in febrile diseases, vomiting or eructation due to stomach heat and cough due to lung heat.
10-30g, or 30-60g (fresh) "The fresh one is preferred."


HUAI HUA
Bitter and slightly cold
Liver and large intestine
ACTIONS:
-Cool blood and arrest bleeding
APPLICATIONS:
-Being good at purging heat in blood, this herb can treat bleeding of various types due to blood heat, especially the bleeding in the lower part.
-Hematochezia, or bleeding in hemorrhoids
-Epistaxis or hematemesis
-Raw one can lower blood pressure and improve the plasticity of the capillaries, often used for hypertension recently.

ACTIONS:
-Cool blood to arrest bleeding
-Eliminate phlegm to relieve cough
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding due to blood heat
-Cough with much phlegm
-Seborrheic dermatitis: Fresh CE BAI YE 60g to be soaked in 60% alcohol for 7 days. Then smear the liquid on te scalp. It has the function of stopping itching and preventing fall of the hair.
-Acne

XIAN HE CAO
Bitter, astringent, bland

ACTIONS:
-Astringe to stop bleeding***
-Relieve dysentery
-Kill worm
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding of various kinds
-Bleeding due to blood heat
-Severe metrostaxis or metrorrhagia
-Diarrhea or dysentery: Most suitable for chronic diarrhea or dysentery
-Chronic fatigue with injury due to overstrain marked by listlessness, lassitude and good appetite
-Pruritis in the external genitalia in females
-Malaria: Large dosage

BAI JI
Bitter, sweet, astringent and slightly cold
Lung liver and stomach
ACTIONS:
-Astringe to arrest bleeding
-Subdue swelling and promote generation of tissues
APPLICATIONS:
-Hematemesis or coughing blood and traumatic bleeding: This herb is mainly used to treat bleeding from the stomach and the lung.***
-Lung yin deficiency marked by dry cough and coughing blood
-Gastric bleeding
-Bleeding due to traumatic injury
-Carbuncles, pyogenic infections or cracks of the skin of hands or feet. (For failure of a wound to heal, this herb can be used externally.)
-Lung abscess: Mostly applied when the pus and blood in the phlegm is becoming less and less

ZONG LU TAN

-Bleeding due to blood heat

XUE YU TAN (Carbonized hair)

ACTIONS:
-Arrest bleeding and dissipate stagnated blood
-Tonify yin and induce diuresis
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding: Similar to ZONG LU TAN, this herb can astringe to arrest bleeding, but it can also dissipate stagnated blood
-Bleeding in the upper part: Powder of this herb can be taken with half a cup of fresh OU ZHI
-Bleeding in the lower part
-Retention of urine or oliguria
6-10g, Powder 1.5-3g
* XUE YU TAN comes from the carbonized human hair which depends on nourishment of the liver blood and kidney essence. It is so named, because the hair is believed to be the remainder of blood. Can nourish yin while inducing diuresis.


SAN QI
Sweet and slightly bitter, warm in nature
Liver and stomach
ACTIONS:
-Dissipate blood stasis to arrest bleeding and activate blood flow to relieve pain
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding: This herb has a very good effect in arresting bleeding, being able to arrest bleeding without stagnated blood remained. So it is most suitable for bleeding with blood stasis.
-Traumatic injury marked by blood stasis, swelling and pain: This herb is specially good at relieveing pain, used alone or with the herbs that can activate blood flow and flow of qi
-Angina pectoris
3-10g, Powder 1.5-3g.
ATTENTION: This herb is warm in nature so if bleeding is complicated with dry mouth due to yin deficiency, it should be used together with the herbs nourishing yin and cooling blood.


QIAN CAO
Bitter and cold

-Activate blood flow and remove stagnated blood
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding due to blood heat: When stir-fried, it can cool blood and arrest bleeding. When used raw, it can activate blood flow and arrest bleeding.
-Amenorrhea, traumatic injury or pain due to blood stasis or arthralgia: Being able to activate blood flow and remove blood stasis.

ACTIONS:
-Astringe to arrest bleeding
-Promote flow of blood and ermove blood stasis
APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding: this herb has a very good effect in arresting bleeding. When carbonized, used to astringe to stop bleeding, when used raw, it can both arrest bleeding and promote blood flow. External application can treat traumatic bleeding.
-Pain in the epigastrium and abdomen, postpartum abdominal pain and dysmenorrhea.
-Induce diuresis to treat stranguria with blood.

ATTENTION: This herb can contract uterus, so not suggested for pregnant woman, but can be used to treat te bleeding due to appropriate contraction of the uterus after delivery.


HUA LEI SHI

APPLICATIONS:
-Bleeding: Most suitable for bleeding due to deficiency cold, especially the vaginal bleeding due to deficiency cold in females.
-Deficiency cold in the lower jiao marked by cold pain in the abdomen, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea and leukorrhea.
-Eczema when used for external washing. It can also warm up qi and blood when used in moxa roll or cone.
-Oil of this herb can stop cough, eliminate phlegm and relieve asthma

ZAO XIN TU

-Vomiting blood or epistaxis or metrostaxis and metrorrhagia due to deficiency cold of the spleen marked by sallow complexion, cold limbs and pale tongue and fine pulse.
-Deficiency cold in the middle jiao marked by vomiting or morning sickness in pregnancy.
-Chronic diarrhea due to spleen deficiency: This herb can warm spleen, astringe the intestine and stop diarrhea.
