HERBS THAT PROMOTE BLOOD FLOW AND REMOVE STAGNATED BLOOD

ZE LAN (Bugleweed)
Bitte, pungent and slightly warm
Liver and spleen

FUNCTIONS:
-To invigorate blood and remove stagnation
-To promote urination and reduce edema

INDICATIONS:
-Blood stagnation manifested as amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation or postpartum abdominal pain
-Chest pain or hypochondriac pain caused by external injuries
-Carbuncles, furuncles or swelling (Juice of herb applied topically.)

10-15g
"Can treat edema after delivery."


YUE JI HUA (Chinese Rose Flower)
Sweet and warm
Liver

FUNCTIONS:
-To invigorate blood and regulate menstruation
-To reduce swelling

INDICATIONS
-Qi and blood stagnation in the liver manifested as irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea or amenorrhea
-Scrofula and swellings (External use)

3-6g

CC: Excessive use of this herb may cause diarrhea. It should be used with caution in cases with weakness of the spleen and stomach. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy.

LING XIAO HUA (Campsis Flower)
Pungent and slightly cold
Liver and pericardium

FUNCTIONS:
-To release stagnation and clear the meridians
-To cool the blood and dispel wind

INDICATIONS:
-Amenorrhea caused by blood stagnation
-General itching due to endogenous wind caused by excessive heat in the blood

WANG BU LIU XING (Vaccaria Seed)
Bitter and neutral
Liver and stomach

FUNCTIONS:
-To invigorate blood and promote menstruation
-To promote lactation

INDICATIONS:
-Dysmenorrhea by retardation of blood circulation or amenorrhea caused by blood stagnation
-Postpartum insufficient lactation
-Mastitis with pain and swollen breasts

SU MU (Sappan Wood)
Sweet, salty, slightly pungent and neutral
Heart, liver and spleen

FUNCTIONS:
-To invigorate blood and promote menstruation
-To stop pain and reduce swelling

INDICATIONS:
-Blood stagnation manifested as dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea and postpartum abdominal pain
-Swellings and pains caused by external injuries, regenerate tissue

XUE JIE (Dragon's Blood)
Sweet, salty and neutral
Heart and liver

FUNCTIONS:
-To stop bleeding and promote the healing of wounds
-To invigorate blood and remove stagnation
-To stop pain

INDICATIONS:
-Hemorrhage due to external injuries (Can be used alone for external application or combined with pu huang)
-Chronic ulcers
-Swelling and pain due to blood stagnation caused by external injuries

1-1.5g in pill form (and for external use.)

CC: Contraindicated in the absence of signs of blood stagnation


WU LING ZHI (Faeces Trogoptero-rum)
(Feces of omniverous mouse)
Bitter, sweet and warm
Liver

FUNCTION:
-Activate blood flow to stop pain, remove stagnated blood to stop bleeding

INDICAITONS:
-Amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, chest pain, stomachache, etc, serving as an important herb for pain caused by blood stasis
-Bleeding with stagnated blood such as metrostaxis and metrorhagia

3-10g, Wrapped before decocting.
